Let’s start out with the basics!

Q:  What is your name, your business name, and the location of your company?
I’m Susan S. owner of Heartbreaker Cosmetics located in beautiful New Hampshire.

Q:  How long have you owned Heartbreaker Cosmetics?
The company site launched in December 2008.

Q:  How did Heartbreaker Cosmetics come to be?
I was using another mineral makeup and was just not thrilled with my foundation, I did a ton of research and decided to try to make my own, after many months I had finally made what I was looking for, then I thought I’d make myself a few eyeshadows, then friends started asking what I was wearing and it all came together after that.

Q:  How did you come up with your company name? Did it take you long to decide upon the name?
I had a pretty big list of names, I’m a writer too so the ideas came quickly and Heartbreaker came up as one of my first choices, I could see the logo in my head and then I thought “everyone has a little heartbreaker in them”.

Q:  Was it difficult to take your idea from an idea to an actual business plan?  What were the biggest obstacles?
Wow so many things made me want to give up at one point or another, it was almost a year from time of conception to launch of the website, there are constant complications when starting out and its a learning experience everyday, you just have to believe in your product or idea and if its your passion it all comes together.

Q:  Have your family and friends been supportive of Heartbreaker?
Oh wow so much, I have great word of mouth advertising because I have sold so much locally, I want my customers to feel like friends not just someone who placed an order.

Q:  What helps you to create the products and colors for new collections?
The seasons are inspiring for color creation, clothing as well inspires me.

Q:  Do you have any new products in the works at the moment?
We just launched the new Spring line so I’m at work on the Summer collection and ssshhh dont tell anyone but I think lip products are on the way.

Q:  What are your future visions and goals for Heartbreaker Cosmetics?
I want Heartbreaker to be one of those companies that you want to tell your friends about, “you have to try this stuff” I would also love to see it sold in stores to be more readily available for people, its a lot of work but great fun for me I don’t want to it end!

Q:  What is the achievement that you are most proud of?
Seeing this whole thing through! Like I said in the beginning I almost dumped the idea many times due to frustration, but its all worth it.

Q:  What are some of your absolute favorite cosmetic and beauty products, other than your own?
I love love love Philosophy products, I use their skin care line and their makeup primer- its my fav, I love Urban Decay Primer Potion and for lips Smashbox is a winner.

Q:  What draws you to purchase a specific product or brand?
I love pretty colors and cute names always get me

Q:  Do you ever leave the house without doing your makeup?
Yes sometimes I have to run very early to the post office to get some orders out and I’ll have no makeup on and I think to myself “they must not believe I really run I makeup company.” haha

Q:  What are a few of your “obsessions” right now (foods, designer, tv show, song, etc.)?
Oh my Cadbury Mini Eggs-they are like crack I swear, and polka dots-I want anything polka dot right now!

Q:  Can you tell us any fun facts about yourself?
I used to weigh about 70lbs more then I do now, and I’m actually in a weight loss informerical.

Q:  Do you have any beauty secrets or tips that you think most people do not know?
Less is more, its really true and PRIME your lids before applying eyeshadow it eliminates all the issues women have with any shadow they may use.
