Q: What’s your name and general location?
Natasha; Southern MD

Q: Do you have any nicknames?
All through high school I was known as Tasha. When I went to college I became Natasha. Now people call me Nat or Naty.

Q: We usually see you sitting down on camera!
How tall are you? 5’5-1/2″ to 5’6″.  I usually just say 5’6″.

Q: Does anyone ever tell you that you look like someone famous? If so, who?
Once upon a time I was told I looked similar to Kate Winslet when she was in Titanic (of course I was much skinner then).

Q: When did you become interested in cosmetics and beauty products?
When I was in high school I wore a little bit of eyeshadow but never anything else really. I have always been big into perfumes and lotions/bath products. I have always had a small makeup collection but I became re-introduced to makeup in late April 2008 when I discovered YTs beauty community.

Q: Who are your inspirations as far as fashion and beauty?
I really love the pinup styles and the classic beauty looks like Marilyn Monroe. On the flip side, I like anything that allows you to be yourself and express yourself through your makeup and fashion. I have always loved Kat Von D’s makeup and lack of fear to put herself out there for who she is.

Q: What are a few of your “obsessions” right now?
Twitter has become a huge obsession. I love it. It’s like texting and IM’n 1000 different people at once. I have always loved accessories (purses, wallets, and sunglasses) but now I’m hooked on Coach so I don’t buy as many accessories anymore! Recently I can eat pancakes at any time of the day (just give me Sugar Free syrup so I’m not feeling too guilty regarding the weight loss!). I am addicted to SO MANY TV shows – but not your usual suspects like most people (I don’t watch Dancing With The Stars, American Idol, or any of the reality shows). Instead I love True Blood, Ghost Whisperer, Psych, Burn Notice, Monk, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Ghost Hunters, Most Haunted…the list goes on and on and on…

Q: You talk about being a teacher.  Do you like your job?  If not, what is your dream career?
Being a teacher was not my first career choice but I love my job (most days! haha) .  I knew it was a lot of work as I grew up an only child to a single mom working in the country as a teacher. We were not poor but we never had extra money because teachers don’t make a lot. ESPECIALLY where I grew up. I went to college to pursue medicine but didn’t like the whole Pre-Med route I started on. I took a class in Genetics and changed my major to Biology. A year later, I took a class in Organic Chemistry and loved it (I know! I know! Most people’s gag reflex kicks in when they hear O-Chem) so I added Chemistry as a double major. Decided I wanted to be a Genetic Counselor and had an amazing senior class load laid out but that August I married Nick and came back from our honeymoon pregnant. I ended up miscarrying but due to those complications I was out of school. So no Genetic Counselor job for me. I finished with a BS in Biology and took the first job I could find to support my family. It happened to be as an inner city middle school teacher. To make myself more marketable I went back to school and got my Master’s in Education. I am currently seeking a program to start my Ph.D. in Education. However, I hope to go back one day and do something in the medical field. I LOVE that stuff!

Q: What got you started doing videos on YouTube?
I was not working Spring 2008 due to moving out of state and I was BORED beyond belief in the country (Tappahannock, VA – home of Chris Brown for those that know! haha) when a HIP duo (Fascinating – purple/gold duo) caught my eye. I don’t know what possessed me but I went straight to YouTube and did a search on purple and gold tutorials. I was very intimidated at first by the amount of talent but I went and tried and tried and got better each time I tried.

Q: How does it feel to have over 5,000 people care about you and your opinions?
NUTS. I think those numbers are waaayyyy off! YouTube has miscounted somewhere because there is no way that many people are truly interested in what I have to say!

Q: How has YouTube affected your life?
To say YT has not affected me would be a lie. I have started to gain more confidence as I put different looks and my weight loss out there. I use YT and Twitter as many people use Weight Watchers. I share my experiences of the week, whether I’m having a bad day, etc and people help me stay focused on my goals to lose weight. Even though I don’t have an enormous following, I went to visit my father-n-law at the hospital he works at and a nurse noticed me in the cafeteria. She knew me from YouTube and didn’t even know I was her co-worker’s daughter-n-law! It was a rush.

Q: Do all of your family and friends know about your videos?
For the most part my family and friends know. What’s amazing is that none of my close friends are subscribers. A few of my female students subscribe to my channel and are constantly asking me to do their makeup in class which of course I have to say no to. I told them we’d have a girls lunch at the end of school and I’ll just do their makeup then.

Q: What do your friends and family think about your beauty product obsession?
My mom loves it because in the process of me becoming addicted to makeup, she discovered how much she liked it and now she is MAC-obsessed like the rest of us. My husband wishes I was as addicted to electronics/technology as I was to makeup so we could put what I spend on makeup towards another jumbotron-sized tv.  :P However, he supports me when I want to shop because he knows it helps me feel more confident.

Q: How long have you been married? How did you and your husband meet?
Aug 2009 will be 9 years happily married :) I met my husband in high school at a competition and both of us were coming out of crap-tastical relationships. We went to different schools but had friends in common so of course they tried to hook us up (unsuccessfully) to go to prom together. We did find out we were going to the same college (VCU – Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA) so as luck would have it we ran into each other 2nd semester (we just celebrated our 11 year dating anniversary April 25th – yes I celebrate the small stuff!!) and we have been inseparable ever since.

Q: Has your outlook on beauty changed since becoming a mother?
Actually I hardly wore any makeup from the age of 18 – 28. Not sure why I just didn’t do it. I owned it but would hardly ever put it on. My hubby says I have reached an early mid-life because now I’m concerned with makeup and such – I just forgot how much fun it was to be a girl!! I tend to do more looks on YouTube that remind me that I’m still young and fun and not just a mom.

Q: What do you/will you teach your daughter about beauty? Will you let her raid your collection?
I will teach my daughter to be happy in her natural beauty — as I was for so long — I feel weird without makeup now but I still go au natural all the time. I don’t want her to think she has to hide behind makeup because to me she is the most beautiful female in the world. :) When she is younger – less is more. As for “letting” her raid my collection – she gets in it all the time. I have set up her own makeup vanity and train case to play with – ELF makeup is PERFECT for your wallet when giving makeup to a 3 (almost 4) year old. Even she knows too much about makeup to want to use the makeup you can get in the kids section of the stores. I think I’m in trouble. :) Not even 4 and she’s excited when we go to the MAC counter or Sephora! haha

Q: We know you love your subscribers! But is there anything that you get sick of being told or asked?
Since I put my weight loss out there I have a lot of people commenting telling me I’m doing it wrong. This is wrong and that is wrong. I appreciate all opinions, but some people are down right mean and that’s not necessary. Same goes for my makeup application. Foundation – especially as well as liner. Everyone is an expert. I say from the get-go I am NOT an expert. I don’t care HOW you do it in terms of application or what brush you use as long as the finished product looks amazing! Use your fingers for all I care :) haha

Q: Do you have any future goals for your YouTube channel?
I want to see it develop into more on weight loss and how to do it the right way. I struggled with every eating disorder you could imagine as a teenager/adult and I’m finally losing weight the right way. Nobody was there for me when I was losing weight the wrong way – all I got was – “whatever you’re doing keep it up b/c you look great.” Ok! I just won’t eat or I’ll just pig out and purge when I get home. That is so bad! I also want to vlog more and make my channel more personal – I started the “Week in 10″ series where I discuss each day with you about my week. It’s like the summary of the show before the new episode! It’s been fun doing so far. Of course I also want to do more series- based tutorials (right now I’m doing a series on Wicked, Harry Potter, and I’m almost finished Scooby Doo) and hair styles. More product reviews as well. I’m opinionated so if I like or dislike something I want people to know. I want a lot out of my channel!

Q: Do you ever have buyers remorse for spending your hard earned money on products?
Not usually. I don’t go out and haul every other day or every week. I was very impulsive with my buying when I started in May ’08 to collect makeup (picture buying a house – now picture spending ALL that savings on makeup – while being unemployed = ME!!) so now I try to ignore the huge collections that keep coming out with MAC and such and just allow myself some shopping here and there. I also try to use a lot of products that are made by small up and coming cosmetic companies because they usually have amazing products at much lower prices!

Q: What draws you to buy a certain product or brand of makeup?
I am willing to pay more for a product if I know it’s going to last. I like the pretty packaging of some products but then discover they suck so I just look for what’s going to still be on my face after I have been teaching for 8 hours and coaching softball. I want what I put on at 5 am to still be on at 8pm when I get home!

Q: What are some of your absolute favorite beauty products?
I am a huge gloss person so I am MADLY in love with MAC’s lipglasses and MAC’s Wildly Lush Plushglass is my all-time favorite. I am also lucky enough to be a Spell Girl (http://www.spellcosmetics.com) and I have an Obvious Lipgloss named after me (Nat). No matter what I do to my face for makeup, I use the MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation to set my face and it’s amazing.

Q: Do you have any beauty secrets or tips that you think most other people don’t know about?
One trick I learned when I was first applying creme liners to my waterline was if you can’t seem to get it on with the brush, just dip your pencil liner in the creme liner and it will apply just like it were the pencil liner but with the consistency of the creme liner. I also discovered if you are in a rush and don’t want to fuss over those perfect lines apply tape first. For me a huge trick at applying false lashes has been to put on mascara FIRST. It helps my lashes stay put and I have no problems anymore!

Q: Is there anything that you collect, aside from makeup?
My kitchen is themed – I love to collect Coca-Cola memorabilia. Whenever I go yard-sale’n or antiquing I am always looking out for old Coca-Cola stuff. I also collect Barbies. Kati got her hands on some of them, but my really good one’s are on stands being displayed. My hubby and I collect movie memorabilia as well. He is a HUGE Lord of the Rings fan so we have an entire display cabinet dedicated to random trinkets (crowns, swords, etc) from the movie.

Q: Can you tell us some fun facts that we probably don’t know about you?
Hmmm…let me see…I am currently writing my first novel. I have always loved to write as a child and was told I should peruse it but I never did. Around Christmas I had a dream I couldn’t get out of my head and decided to write it down – 37 typed pages later, I think I have a chapter to a very interesting book on my hands! Just gotta find the time to write! When I’m really really happy my brown eyes will turn VERY GREEN. It happened right before Nick’s eyes the night we met and he was very freaked out by it! When I was pregnant with Kati, my water broke right in the middle of teaching my 6th graders. She was 3 weeks early and has always been on her own schedule since then! Cheesecake is my weakness. Since I was 12 I have asked for a cheesecake for my birthday instead of a traditional birthday cake. I love love love horror movies – especially movies like The Exorcist and The Shining! I’m addicted to tattoos and have about 7 more planned!

We want to play Pee Wee’s Playhouse.
Q: Will you slip a “secret word” into your next video for our readers? The secret word is “Foxy”.
Foxy it is :)
