Hello my beauties. It’s a new year and it has come time that I talk to you all about something that has been weighing on my mind. Some of you know that I made the switch from vegetarian to vegan awhile back and while it originated as a food-centered decision, it has quickly branched into every aspect of my life. Without a doubt, a big part of my life is focused on beauty products, designed to give us that hint of glimmer, a touch of gloss, and an absolute glow. But unfortunately, there is nothing beautiful about the process that brings us so many of our precious products. As you may have guessed by now, I’m talking about animal testing. I want to start off by saying that you don’t have to stop reading this right now and walk away feeling excluded or attacked for not having the same point of view as me, because that just isn’t and never will be what I am about. This is something very personal to me and there is no way that I could live with myself if I continued to promote brands and products that practice the torture of another living creature, all for the sake of my vanity. Animal testing is not slaughter, it is something far worse. Living, breathing creatures are kept in a constant state of suffering, not even awarded the luxury of death, so that “glamorous” lotions, creams, and potions can improve my appearance. That just isn’t pretty. So from this day forward, Glimmer. Gloss. Glow. pledges to exclusively feature, review, recommend cruelty-free products. Thank you all for your continued support!

Now that 2009 has come to an end, it is time to reveal our Editor’s Choice picks for the year or, in other words, my personal favorites. The products chosen may be new releases from 2009 or products that have been available for years, but either way they are the best of the best from my past year on the hunt for the holy grails of beauty.

But no matter what look you choose, have fun with it! Whether you’re going out of curling up on the sofa with your sweetheart, Glimmer. Gloss. Glow. is withing you a fun and safe New Year’s Eve. “It came without ribbons! It came without tags! It came without packages, boxes, or bags!” We hear it a million times every year, and yet it’s still so easy to get caught up in the trappings of Christmas. The twinkling lights, the shiny packages, and the festive parties all seem to define the season no matter how hard we try to give it meaning. And often the most daunting task of it all is the shopping. We make a list, check it twice, and try to figure out who meant enough in our lives during the past year to make the infamous gift list. But maybe, instead of worrying about getting those who made the list the perfect gift, we should be more concerned about letting them know what they meant to us in order to get them on that list in the first place. So no matter what you celebrate, or how you celebrate it, we are wishing you a safe and happy holiday this year, filled with love, joy, memories, and fulfilled wishes. Okay, and maybe a pretty package or two.
